Certified B Corporation

Cuento de Luz is a Certified B Corporation.

It is a certification we sought because it asks the question we already asked ourselves when we founded this house: can a business be a force for good, and can that be proven rather than merely claimed?

What it means

B Corp certification is awarded by B Lab, a non-profit organisation, to companies that meet verified standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. It looks at the whole company — how we treat the people we work with, how we make our books, how we govern ourselves, and what we give back — not at a single product or a marketing promise.

Crucially, it is not self-declared. Performance is verified by an independent third party, and certification must be renewed. A B Corp is a company that has agreed to be examined.

The standards have been raised

In 2025 B Lab published the most significant revision of its standards in nearly twenty years, rolling out through 2026. The old system — reaching a total score across five areas — has been replaced by mandatory minimum requirements across seven impact topics: purpose and stakeholder governance, climate action, human rights, fair work, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, environmental stewardship and circularity, and collective action.

Companies can no longer offset a weak area with a strong one. Every topic must be met, verified independently, and improved over the certification cycle.

We welcome this. A certification that is easy to hold is worth little to the people it is meant to protect.

What it looks like in our work

Our books are printed on stone paper — no trees, no water, no bleach — a decision we made at the beginning and have never reversed, even when it was the harder and more expensive path.

We publish a small number of books each year with authors and illustrators we know by name, and we work with foundations around the world, translating and giving away editions in languages our books would otherwise never reach — you can read about those in Impact Projects.

We are a very small company. We do not claim to have solved anything. We claim to be measuring ourselves honestly, and to be trying to do better each year — which is exactly what this certification asks.
